Attendance is a top priority at Green Valley. Students are expected to attend class on a regular, daily basis. Students will attend each class throughout the day, on time, and are expected to be prepared for learning. Attendance is mandatory; Students refusing to attend school may result in a Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) referral to the district’s SARB panel.
A Student Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting will be scheduled with the principal and staff at the school after five unexcused absences. A SARB referral will result after the sixth unexcused absence. Ten unexcused absences are deemed excessive by California Education Code 48260.
Truancies will result in both school and possible law enforcement consequences. Truancy citations could be issued to students that intentionally “ditch” school. The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District utilizes “Clean Sweep.”
If a student must be absent, a parent or guardian should call Green Valley High School at (909) 790 - 8580 to clear the absence before 9 A.M. on the day the student is absent. If a parent has not called, the student must bring a signed note, within five days, from the parent, which includes the reason and date(s) of the absence. The following are the only legal excuses:
· Personal (student) illness
· Personal medical or dental appointment
· Personal court appearance
· Funeral services for a member of the immediate family
All students must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance to receive full credit for a class. Attendance is key to success.
Students entering school after the 8:00AM bell must sign in at the office and obtain a tardy pass. Tardies incurred during the remainder of the day will be marked by the teacher of the class in which the student was late. Students missing more than 50% of class time will be marked as unexcused. Unexcused absences will be counted toward tardies. If a student receives 2 tardies in any given week, they will serve a 30 minute detention the following week. If they fail to serve detention that week, they will incur a 30 minute penalty the following week and do a 1 hour detention.
Each week, students who have extreme perfect attendance (no tardies, absences, truancies or early release) will receive a ticket. These tickets will be put into a drawing for awards at the end of each quarter. Last year students received some great prizes like t-shirts, tumblers, caps, flip flops, candy, and gift cards.
